The Bronze Oracle Head – Limited Edition Fine Art Giclée Print 60x60cm
LEOPARD VI — “The Bronze Oracle Head”
From the LEOPARD series
The LEOPARD series draws inspiration from the extraordinary bronze and brass leopard sculptures associated with the historic Kingdom of Benin, in present-day Nigeria. In Benin court culture, the leopard was closely associated with the Oba — the king — and became a powerful emblem of royal authority, strength, protection, and prestige.
LEOPARD VI — The Bronze Oracle Head — reimagines this remarkable artistic tradition through a contemporary lens.
Here, the leopard has been reduced to its most commanding element: the head. Facing the viewer directly, with open jaws, exposed teeth and an extended tongue, it has an expression that is at once formidable and strangely communicative — as though this ancient symbol has been given a voice.
The patterned surface and raised details reference the extraordinary visual language and metalworking traditions that inspired the collection, while the warm, aged bronze appearance gives the imagined object the presence of something that might have travelled through centuries.
Part sculpture, part portrait, The Bronze Oracle Head explores what happens when a historic symbol is reimagined outside its original form — retaining its power and dignity while becoming something new.
Rendered in the graphite-bronze aesthetic that runs throughout the LEOPARD series, the work brings the visual richness of historical African metalwork into conversation with contemporary art.
