The LEOPARD series draws inspiration from the remarkable bronze and brass leopard sculptures of the historic Kingdom of Benin, in present-day Nigeria. Within the royal court of Benin, the leopard was closely associated with the Oba — the king — and became a powerful symbol of royal authority, strength, protection and controlled power.

LEOPARD III — The Bronze Sentinel — explores the leopard as a watchful presence: poised between stillness and action.

Standing alone, the figure appears calm yet intensely aware. Its body is grounded while the dramatically curled tail rises above it, creating an elegant sculptural silhouette and an unmistakable sense of contained energy.

A sentinel does not need to pursue. Its power lies in awareness — in knowing what may enter, what must remain outside, and when action is required.

The weathered verdigris surface gives the imagined sculpture the character of an object carried through centuries. Variations of green-blue patina, softened bronze and subtle surface irregularities evoke the passage of time and the extraordinary metalworking traditions that inspired the collection.
